On his first solo release Jay Jackson messes about with samples of Chinese folk song and he comes up trumps twice. In the robust “Le Chinois” Jackson combines sped up 3ball style drums with a squelchy, detuned synth to create a peak time club banger of epic proportions. On the flip our man Jay is countering all this fiery yang energy with the more restrained yin sensibilities of “Chine-Chine”, in which he drops the tempo to moombahton pace and adds gentle melancholy as well as laser shots to the hypnotic solemnity of an old Chinese lullaby. Nice!
